Natural gas vehicle training is one of the most requested by members of the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) and provides participants information on natural gas fuel systems and storage tanks.
Participants gathered at the NAFTC headquarters in Morgantown, WV on March 16 through 18 to complete the consortium’s Light-Duty Natural Gas Vehicle train-the-trainer course and the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicle Fuel System Inspector train-the-trainer course.

NAFTC train-the-trainer courses provide participating instructors with information on how to format the supplemental curricula materials and present the information to their students.
The participants said the training bettered their knowledge of CNG systems.
“Overall it was a good training, and it certainly brought me a new level of understanding about CNG systems,” stated Instructor at Lincoln College of Technology Steve Hatch.
The CNG Vehicle Fuel System Inspector course teaches students a working knowledge of the types of fuel system components used in CNG vehicles, how to inspect components for damage and deterioration, and how to safely handle CNG cylinders and fuel lines.
The three-day Light-Duty Natural Gas Vehicle course is a combination of classroom and hands-on training designed for the professional technician or automotive student and covers vehicle safety, service procedures, vehicle systems, and the nature of gaseous fuels.
The NAFTC’s courses, along with recommended independent study, help prepare technicians to successfully pass the ASE F1 Compressed Natural Gas Vehicle exam and the CSA International natural gas vehicle exam.“Go and attend the training. The NAFTC has a very good facility with cars for hands on training; I would definitely recommend it,” said Career Pathway Specialist at First Coast Technical College Charles Harper.
The next NAFTC Light-Duty Natural Gas Vehicle and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Vehicle Fuel System Inspector training is scheduled for July 27-31 in Morgantown, WV. To register, please visit the Training Schedule.
