The 2006 National Kickoff Media Event was conducted at the Arlington County Courthouse, in Arlington, Virginia. A very special thank you goes out to the Virginia Clean Cities Coalition, General Services Administration (GSA), and New West Technologies, LLC., as they worked together to host the kickoff event. In addition to the national media kickoff event, coordinated by the NAFTC, the event showcased numerous alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles which included a Toyota hydrogen fuel cell vehicle, GEM neighborhood electric vehicles, the Honda Civic GX, and many others. There were hundreds in attendance, including several area school groups who attended the event to learn more about these new advancements in technology. The 2006 kickoff event was an enormous success, as were the numerous other Odyssey events spanning the country.

While alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicle displays are always popular, other Odyssey events included mini-conferences and workshops, biodiesel demonstrations and hands-on experiments, and ride-and-drives. Big or small, Odyssey served as a voice to all those involved and attending Odyssey events.

With the continued trend of rising gasoline prices, national concerns surrounding our strangling dependence on foreign oil, and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, Odyssey is the only nationwide event to endorse alternative fuel vehicles as the only choice for the future of America.

An event such as National AFV Day Odyssey is just one step in the right direction, but it is a step that will not go unnoticed. Odyssey’s impact will reach millions, helping to educate individuals of the real alternatives that are available to them. By coming together on one day, at numerous locations nationwide, we will be triumphant in our mission. Together we can make a difference!
