Onondaga Community College (OCC) in Syracuse, New York, one of the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium’s National Training Centers, hosted a National AFV Day Odyssey Pre-Conference on November 29, 2005. The event was co-sponsored by Honda Motor Company and Clean Communities of Central New York.
Presentations in the areas of advanced automotive technology, alternative fuel technology, renewable power technology, and onboard diagnostic sciences were given. Sample topics included how CNG (compressed natural gas) vehicles are economic, an update on industry trends, and biodiesel.
Guest presenters were Clean Communities of Central New York, Honda Motor Company, Cummins Northeast, Inc., City of Auburn, New York, and Snap-On Corporation. A continental breakfast and tour of OCC’s Automotive Technology Center were also part of the special event.
Richard “Rick” Kent, OCC Professor and Chairman of the Department of Automotive Technology, was honored with a memorial presentation. Mr. Kent passed away on October 1, 2005. More on his life and contributions to OCC can be found in the NAFTC’s CAReport, being released later this month.
